I read at TEMPO

" It maybe a baby girl for low calorie mom "

Picture(57) LONDON(Reuters)- Women on low calorie diets or who skip breakfast at the time of conception are more likely to give birth to girls than boys, British scientists said.

New research by the Universities of Exeter and Oxford provides the first evidence that a child's sex is associated with the mother's diet, and higher energy intake is linked to males.

*
Is this true? Well, if it is. I will not skip breakfast at the time of my conception because I want a baby boy on my next pregnancy. LOL! *

Reminders..

Don’t delay introducing ‘lumpy’ foods

eatResearchers at Bristol University in England have discovered that delaying your baby’s introduction to lumpier foods may contribute to fussy eating habits. ‘Lumpy foods’ are semi-solids like small bits of cooked soft vegetables or food that is mashed with a fork.

The study found in the group of babies who were not given lumpy foods until they were 10 months or older, one in five were fussy eaters by the age of 15 months. Compared to babies who were introduced to lumpy foods between the ages of six and nine months, the fussy eaters were twice as likely to have firm food preferences and were more likely to insist on baby foods well after their first birthday. This research suggests that giving your baby a wide variety of lumpy or chewy foods between the ages of six and nine months will broaden their food appreciation and reduce the likelihood of fussy eating later on.

Source: Better Health Channel

* That is true! we must introduce "lumpy foods" to our child earlier so that they can eat fruits and vegetables. I introduce solid foods to my child when she is 6 months. I slowly let her taste the food until she likes it. She eat some vegetables like potato, carrots, squash and chayote. She eats banana and apple too. I have no problem with her in eating time because she really eats a lot. *

Kyla is scared

Last Monday night, the “Maligno” starts aired on TV. It is a scary teleserye of ABS-CBN. Gosh! It’s really a demonic TV series. I like the story but I hate it because it is all about evil doings of a cult. It’s not good for the children you know. I don’t like children to be afraid like my daughter Kyla. Obviously, it is also a bloody TV series that is not pleasing in the eyes of a child. I’m sad because I like the actress there for it is Claudine Baretto who is one of my favorite actress in the Philippines

Again!

Last night we sleep at 2 in the morning due to my daughter have tantrums again. I don’t “pansin” her so that she will stop from crying for she will not calm. Grrr! I get angry because the neighbors are all sleeping and yet she is so noisy. She cries so loud. Mom in law told me that she is well behaved when I was in Davao. She cries only at night and want me to be with her. Then, still she cries at night. What will I do? I keep myself from hurting her but sometimes I get irritated of what she acts. I want to go home. I hope tonight she will just sleep and will not cry again for I told her that I will go home. Whew!

Problems of this World

Teenagers even adults involved in taking illegal drugs for they thought it was the solution to forget their problems. But not realizing its effect mentally and physically. It can ruin their lives and for that they change their behavior that may lead to hurting people around them especially their family. Just like some celebrities who are into drug rehabs for drug treatment. It is the good for them so that they can recover from their bad experience on taking prohibited drugs rather to die.

Barney with Kyla

barney

Kyla’s cute little Barney stuff toy were here too in Manila. Hubby told me that lucky Barney ride on the airplane and went to Manila than him. We just laughed because he never had an experience of going to Manila through an airplane. I like him to follow us here but we have a small business in Davao that no one has to manage. And so he stayed in Davao. We missed him so much. He said that he counts the day we will be home. I think it is 19 days to go..hehe. I’m so excited to go home but yet I am enjoying my stay here.

DORA at MusicBox

dora1

Last night, we had a great night. It is because after our mouth-watering dinner at Max’s Chicken. We headed to Music Box, that is one of the famous comedy bar here in Manila. One of the gay was looks like DORA. Kyla enjoyed the place because she saw DORA. She even had a picture on that impersonator. Some of the audience looks at her because that place is for adults for gays have nasty jokes which are not good for the children. But as time goes by, there are children together with their parents and relatives. Kyla even don’t want to go home for she enjoyed the gay’s performance. It was our first time to go there. I really enjoy the night so also Kyla.

Tantrums!!!

Why children have tantrums? I hate being with that time because I sometimes spank my daughter due to it’s hard for her to keep calm. Then, after that I pity on her. Sometimes I will just ignore her so that she will stop from crying. Grrr! I hate children crying for they are very “kawawa” to hear. Is that normal for children to have tantrums even daily? Gosh! I can’t manage it truly. I have no long patience on that thing but hubby has that. Hubby will scold me when I cannot keep her calm because if I talk to her softly. Then, she will cry loud. I hope Kyla will not have tantrums everyday for I cannot help it. It makes my blood pressure high. Whew! It is so hard to be a mom.

Getting Ready?

Last Saturday, my sis in law went to dental clinic near in Novaliches, QC. Oh! When will be my daughter’s first dental check up? I’m a little bit worried about that thing because my daughter Kyla is so “matakutin sa injection”. I know it will be hard for us to convince her. I will just think of it later than worrying. My mom in law told me that I will not do anything for her teeth because it is still milk teeth. There’s nothing to fret about.

Tips..

When can I ... begin potty training?

Most children show signs of readiness to begin toilet training between 18 months and 3 years of age. These signs include staying dry for at least 2 hours at a time, having regular bowel movements, being able to follow simple instructions, being uncomfortable with dirty diapers and wanting them to be changed, asking to use the potty chair or toilet, asking to wear regular underwear.

You should also be able to tell when your child is about to urinate or have a bowel movement by his facial expressions, posture or by what he says. If your child has begun to tell you about having a dirty diaper you should praise him for telling you and encourage him to tell you in advance next time. There is however no rush to begin potty training. If you start too early, before your child is ready, then you will just prolong the whole process.

Source: Keep Kids Healthy

** I start potty training my daughter when she is only 8 months old. It’s really kind a hard to train her but you need to be patient. When she turns one she will independently go to to her potty to urinate and “popo”. I’m so proud of my daughter Kyla because she can easily catch up my teaching and training to her. Now, I am training her to urinate so also “popo” at the comfort room. She is learning. **

Kyla's New Doll

doll

This baby doll looks like what we buy at Divisoria last Thursday. I don’t want to buy it because it looks like some horror movies that uses doll to scare everyone. But my daughter wants to buy and she will surely cry if I will disagree on her. Maybe she misses her big doll which she names it Dolly in Davao. That is why she wants to have a baby doll. Her grandma used to give her dolls but sometimes she destroys it by breaking its legs and hands. Such a spoiled kid she is!

Strolling, Buying..

I went to SM Fairview today for some important purposes. I enjoy strolling on the mall and I went upstairs to look for a short pant for my daughter. Gee! I was tempted to buy a maong pants for her and a Barbie blouse for its pair. My feet are aching for I walk at 2 hours there looking for her short pant. Obviously, I look for an affordable price that fits my budget as well. Whew! Today is a tiring day for me.

Oh..we missed it!

Today is April 18, and so it is May-May and Marvin’s wedding. Supposed to be my daughter will be one of their flower girls but we are here in Manila. It is her first time to be a flower girl and I’m so excited but maybe it is not the right time. I must be their wedding coordinator but I was here in Manila too. I must be here in May but my daughter cries a lot for she wants me to be with her. I missed and we missed that special event ever. It’s okay, maybe next time. And soon she will be our flower girl for renewing our vows. Gee! Maybe 5 years from now.

A great activity to do this summer

This is the Davao White Water Rafting video done by my hubby, he told me that trying the white water rafting is very exciting. He invited me to try it, but I am still hesitant because I don't know how to swim. But he told me that he too don't know how to swim. It's not a problem if you do not  swim because all safety gears are provided then doing this activity. So, this summer we're planning to do this when I go home in Davao. Excited!

SM Challenge

A personal challenge for me to go to SM here in manila because I'm not familiar on the streets here. But, I still want to go to SM and take the challenge. After I had my lunch earlier, I hurriedly go. Take a jeepney ride to the mall. At the jeepney, I keep on praying that I wont be lost and will arrive at SM. Thank God, he guided me and I got at the mall early. I take my time to enjoy the things that I’ve seen and just stroll around, go window shopping. After which, I treated my self with a jar of ice cream, yummy… On my way back home, I didn’t have a hard time choosing what jeepney route to ride. I arrived home safe and sound, and I won the SM challenge.

Food Trip Day

Today is a food trip day for both of us my sister-in-law and me. In the morning, she cooked fried rice which is one of her specialty. And it taste so great, it can be compared to fried rice which restaurants serve. We had our lunch with a soup, myself did the birds nest soup for our appetizer. It was cooked with love, so it tasted awesome. Hehehe.. This afternoon we had a mango float. Wow, i remembered my hubby back in Davao right now, this is one his favorite desserts. What a day of eating we had today. Thank God for the blessings.

Mocha Roll of Goldilocks

Mocha-flavored sponge cake filled with buttercream filling. The whole cake is iced with mocha butter cream icing. It has a wavy, combed finish and topped with seven pieces rosettes (whole) and 3 pieces rosettes (half) in the center. Each rosette is dotted with red piping jelly and green butter cream leaves are piped on both sides. The whole roll is sprinkled with vermicelli.

Yesterday, we ate a Mocha Roll of Goldilocks. My daughter Kyla's favorite. She eats cake a lot. It's yummy! I can't resist the temptations..hehe. And so Kyla have fun eating this cake so also us. We have nothing to do at home but to eat, watch TV and sleep. Gosh! I'm gaining weight. It's okay because I can still control my eating habits.

The Wise Elephant

This is the big elephant that we saw in Manila Zoo. But I have real photos on my digi cam and I'll post it soon. Kyla my daughter was shock and afraid when she saw the big elephant walking and asking food to all the people. I throw a small chips a hoy but it went to the canal. It doesn't reach to its place but the elephant looks for it and get a little. Then the elephant use its trunk to get the food and put on its mouth. That's amazing! I regret that I never get a video on it but it stored on my mouth how the elephant do it.

I want to ride but..

Last Thursday we went to SM Fairview. We had our food shopping for tomorrow’s event. We went at Manila Zoo and we had fun there. Grrr! My daughter is very OA because she doesn’t want me and her do a horseback riding. I am in the top of the horse and so I am ready to ride but she cried loud. I just went down. I envy those kids who were not afraid riding on a horse. All I do is get a photo on the beautiful surroundings there. I’ll post photo later.

Our Upcoming Family Reunion

I’m so excited now. The month of May is fast approaching. After of almost a year planning this event, our family reunion will now take place Next month. My relatives from different parts of the world will come over here in Davao city for this said family event. It will be held on one of the famous beach resort here in the city. Lots of surprises are in store for us. Custom t-shirts are one of the great giveaways on that day. I personally designed and ordered this shirt at bluecotton.com. They have custom printing for t-shirts, ladies styles, sweats, athletics, knit shirts and accessories. You can create designs online for them to use it on the printing process. Designing is just a piece of cake, because of their large amount of stock graphics. I told some  of my relatives about this thing and they are all excited to have this great souvenir from our family reunion.

Today's Trip

We went to SM Fairview today for food shopping. It was a big department store as compared to SM Davao. It was a nice place because you can see all branded store there. They are on sale of up to 50% discount. I want to buy some discounted stuff but my money is not enough and so I need to stop myself. LOL! Maybe by next week I can go there for shopping. I need to wait for my money, my salary I should say.

My daughter Kyla has fun watching the live shrimps and tilapia swimming on the aquarium inside SM supermarket. Many people were there not like the SM Davao that people rarely come to their groceries because it is pricey unlike in NCCC. I have fun here.

Manila Trip

I thank God for giving me and all the passengers of Cebu Pacific a safe trip from Davao to Manila. It was a long distance from the house of my mother in law. Gosh! The traffic is so annoying not like in Davao. But it has beautiful spots to visit. We will go to SM Fairview tomorrow for food shopping. I am excited to go there for the comparison of SM Davao. Then, on Friday we will go to Manila Zoo. Surely I will take pictures of all animals there. I'm so excited to stroll.

We will meet at last!

My friend called me on the phone yesterday and told me that we will meet next week before I will go to Manila. She wants me to accompany her to look for a laptop memory because her laptop is old and it bothered her when downloading files. Then, I agreed to meet with her but I insist that hubby will be with us for he is an expert in choosing such stuff. She agreed and finally we will meet next week at some computer store.

Graphics for Baby Comments

I would like to congrats Mr. and Mrs. Lizarondo for a baby boy coming this April. I am happy for them because they have now 1 girl and 1 boy. Gosh! I got a little envy with them because I want to have a baby boy in my next pregnancy. I am planning to get pregnant maybe by next year. I pray that God will give us a baby boy so that I will not find a baby boy anymore for we agreed to have 2 kids only. Life is getting harder in terms of financial living. Then, if we have so many kids, we will have difficulties in giving them education. I’m pretty much excited for next year. LOL!

Mom's Pride

Barbie is like a sounding buzz in all moms for it is a popular brand in children’s apparel, shoes and accessories. It is pricey as compared to some kids stuff but it is proven in it’s quality for it last long.

I am very particular in buying Kyla’s stuff. Sometimes if I have extra money I prefer to buy branded stuff. I will sometimes buy brand less things but have a good quality or it is made in cotton in some dress. I think all moms like me because I want our child to look pretty in dress though sometimes we forget to buy for ourselves. That’s the role of a mom! I’m happy doing that because I love my daughter. I want her to look best!

Barbie Crocs for Kyla

crocsI and hubby went to Gmall to see the wedding exhibit there. Then, we went to Gmall, I mean inside because hubby wants to buy a pair of slippers. I saw many kids there together with their mom choosing a pair of shoes. I suddenly miss my baby Kyla and hubby has found Barbie slippers in pink that looks like crocs in design. I want to buy it but I am not sure if it fits to her. Maybe I will her in Manila. I hope I can find it there that has the same designs and price.

My sexy little Kyla

kyla!

This photo was taken last March 20, its Kyla’s birthday. Her Tito Coi catches this moment as if she is a model of FHM. LOL! We coach her to post like a sexy model does. She was alive and active at that day because she is not tired of playing the water on the pool. I remember that she dance this time a “Supah Papalicious” by Vhong Navarro. It’s kind a successful birthday celebration for we all enjoy swimming in the pool.

Safety in Child Sleeping

No matter where your young child sleeps, there are safety precautions to follow. Some parents are worried about rolling over on a child if they share a bed. There is a greater risk of suffocation for infants if they sleep with adults, but you can take precautions to provide a safer family bed.

The chance of laying on a child, or overlying, is increased if the adults in a bed have used alcohol, drugs, or are taking medication. Extreme fatigue also raises the risk of overlying. If you are affected by fatigue, alcohol, or drugs while you are awake, you will also be less able to sleep safely with your child. Put your child to sleep alone if this is the case.

There are many cases of babies suffocating because they become trapped between the mattress and the headboard or a wall. Babies are also at risk for suffocating if they sleep on an adult’s chest while the adult is lying on a sofa because they may slide between the back of a sofa and the adult’s body. Place the bed well away from a wall and never sleep with your baby on overstuffed furniture. Take steps so your baby won’t fall out of a bed, such as lowering the mattress to the floor or using a “sidecar” bassinet attached to your bed.

Source: parentsasteachers.org

** When my child sleeps on our bed, I usually put a hotdog pillow in each side so that she will not fall. But when she is only months old, she always fall. Hubby scolded every time he knows that our daughter. I am sometimes busy and I forgot to put a pillow. I can notice that she falls when she cried loud. I’m so worried about her and will sometimes hide on my hubby so that he will not get angry with me. I am thankful for this fact so that mom like me will give full care for their child when they sleep. **

Bye Bye to all!!!

My daughter Kyla was in Manila and I’m so worried about her because she always cry at night. Mom-in-law and sis-in-law relay to us that she is having tantrums every night. I can’t sleep at night. And so I am force to go to Manila next week. I’ll be home on May 15. Gosh! I’ll be celebrating my birthday there for the first time. But we will celebrate it here in Davao together with my hubby so also my sis-in-law. I will miss everyone especially my hubby, my family, my friends and relatives so also my PC..huhu..

Expert say..

Reading experts Susan Hall and Louise Moats sum up the benefits of reading aloud to your child in the early years. Your child:

Source: parents as teachers

** Sometimes my daughter and I will read her books given by her grandma. She always looks on the picture and will ask me everything she saw. I slowly explain to her so that she can understand. But I know she can read right now because she is only 3 but she can identify so many things. I know she is a smart kid because she reasons out when she is being asked. I thank God for giving her that precious talent. **

Characteristics of good books

Books for babies to 1 year:

Books for toddlers and twos:

Books for preschoolers:

Source: parentsasteachers.org

by: jil0504 at 11:25 | link | comments

What to look for in a book

Good books for young children need to be well made and durable. Little ones like to really explore their favorite books, carrying them around, tugging on the pages, and even “mouthing” them. Large, colorful pictures attract children to books and hold their interest. The youngest children will enjoy photographs or realistic pictures which help them relate the book to familiar things in their surroundings. Preschoolers are attracted to a wide variety of artwork in books.   Good stories with interesting characters and a plot with lots of action also appeal to preschoolers, where babies and toddlers are interested in books with just a few words on the page or ones that label objects in the pictures. Choose books for all ages that picture people with a variety of cultures, races, physical abilities or occupations.

Source: Parents as Teachers

** My daughter Kyla used to get a book and will read “daw”. She will look on pages and will ask me what that thing there is. She can identify things right now. Kyla can identify the alphabet slowly so also the numbers. I’m teaching her because I want her to go to school next year because she is turning 4 years old next year. I’m so excited and I hope I can expect more from her. She is a smart kid because she can understand easily and will stored in her memory. **
